BellaNaija Weddings presents Jamila & Bunu’s Enchanting Wedding in Kaduna, Maiduguri and Abuja #Leofest18

Jamila
and Bunu (Umar) were introduced by their mutual friend who felt they would be right for each other (talk about friends that know *wink*).  The bride knew from the first date that her groom was the one.

Bunu who is from Borno and Jamila from Kaduna had a 5-day wedding celebration (mother’s lunch, Kamun Amarya, Walima, Budan Kai and a beautiful dinner reception) which held in Kaduna, Maiduguri and Abuja.

Here’s a little back story of how they met. Look out for the description of each ceremony in between the pictures.

How We Met

By The Bride, Jamila

I was introduced to Umar through a friend who literally just told me she gave someone my number. I was like why, who, how, lol! This instantly sparked my curiosity. After a few days, he sent the most polite message asking if we could talk, which I, of course, said yes to. We got talking and I found myself enjoying every conversation more and more. After two weeks of talking almost every day, we agreed to meet up. I pretty much knew from that day that he was the perfect man for me and the rest is now history.

Umar’s Version

My wife was introduced to me by our mutual friend. I had a brief, work-related chat with my friend and she decided to reward me by introducing me to Jamila. I got her number and called. After a few calls, we decided to meet up at her place. We met a few times and I felt the connection almost immediately, it was real and strong. The journey started last year and here we are.

Our Proposal
By The Groom, Umar

Hmmm, I could tell she knew I was going to propose but when and where was unknown, which I deliberately kept away from her. Days passed by and the perfect opportunity presented itself but I  hesitated because I was nervous. Before the proposal, I went on Youtube to rehearse “how to propose”. I watched all sorts to get me prepared. In picking the perfect place, I had to go earlier to arrange for the big event. Everybody was cooperative and we got two reserved seats. I actually still called a friend to discuss my nervousness, which I still had until the very moment.

On the day of the proposal, after we eat our food,  I gave the go ahead and the ring arrived. I went down on my knee, still shaking and gave the famous speech of life and she said YES!

 Awww! So sweet!

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple a lifetime of love and happiness together.

Kamun Amary in Kaduna

The Kamu is a traditional event shared across Hausa, Kanuri and Fulani cultures, which literally means ‘catching the bride’. During this event, the groom’s family members come to negotiate a price with the bride’s friends for them to release the bride and reveal her face. Once paid, the bride is unveiled and sprayed with henna/perfume which signifies that she is now theirs.

 Budan Ka in Maiduguri
This event signifies the unveiling of the bride. After all the events have taken place, the now married bride is taken to her husbands family home. Upon arrival, she is received by the husband’s family and prayers and well wishes are bestowed on their new bride by the female members of the grooms family, who then unveil her. After this, there is a celebration to welcome her. An Islamic cleric is also present to preach about marriage.

They Met on MySpace! Linda & Taiye’s #TheLxtWeddingparty + Amazing Love Story

Linda and Taiye‘s love story is so so beautiful!

The couple met online and dated for a while before they actually met physically. Their proposal story told by the bride is so interestingly detailed and we love it! The couple got married traditionally at Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government, Anambra state with family and friends in attendance. Their white wedding held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos which was a beautiful display of love.

Here’s a little back story of how they met.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple love, peace, joy and happiness together!

How We Met
By The Bride, Linda

Taiye and I met online via a social networking website then known as MySpace in 2007. I had just gained admission into Unilag as a Diploma student. One boring evening, one of my best friends, Ego took me to the cyber café of her hostel to help me create my account. Back then, my palasa phone couldn’t browse so I was at the mercy of cyber cafés to browse. We even did a mini photo shoot back then with her phone to get the perfect profile picture. The next evening, I was anxious to see the number of friend requests I had received so I bought 100 Naira worth of net time to browse. As soon as I logged on, I got some notifications that I had not just received a friend request but also an inbox message from this fine young looking man. I immediately responded and he told me he had just gained admission into Babcock University and was preparing to resume. We got chatting and he asked for my number which I gave him. We talked and dated over the phone briefly without ever meeting physically until he dumped me.

Heartbroken, I decided to move on. Fast forward to 2009/2010, I decided to change universities because of the constant ASUU strike and the fact that my parents did not like that it was delaying my education, so they decided to send me to a private university. Their first choice was Babcock but I did not want to go there because I was still upset with Taiye and I knew we would be classmates if I went there. I told my parents I did not like the school. They said my opinion of the school was not important and I should go inquire about the school with my Uncle. I was upset but saw it as an opportunity to see the face of the guy who broke my small heart, and so I decided to kill two birds with a stone.

I called Taiye and told him I was on my way to his school and would need help locating the appropriate office. This would be our very first time of ever seeing each other physically. I got there and met him and his best friend Darlynton. He leaned forward for a hug and I refused but rather chose to give him a handshake instead. I hugged his best friend to spite him, after which they escorted me to the admin office and luckily for me, Babcock was not accepting diploma students from other universities. I was glad I was not going to attend the same university with him but someone wasn’t and I didn’t care. I said my goodbyes and as soon as I left the school, Taiye kept calling me often. I decided to show him pepper and play over-hard to get but he would not give up. I got admission into Lead City University. He became my best friend even though we had an on and off long distance relationship. In 2011, we fully got back together and have been together since then.

Our Proposal
By The Bride, Linda

So I kind of started suspecting Taiye was going to propose soon when he gave me his iPad when mine got stolen in the UK. I stumbled on a few browser pages on rings but what I did not know was when he was going to pop the question. My suspicions became stronger when I started seeing him have coded meetings with my Dad. They both would chase me away anytime I tried coming close to their meetings. I also heard him gisting with my colleagues and whenever I asked, he said he is inviting them to his sister’s wedding.

Anyway, I became sure when he indirectly hinted me of his plans for his twin sister’s wedding when I almost couldn’t make it for the wedding. He pleaded that I should be there so as “not to ruin his plans”. Now I am one not to be easily surprised as I always want to know (I hate suspense). So when I heard that, as a sharp babe, I started my online shopping on Chic-Couture (a US-based online store) for the perfect dress and after-party outfit, as I needed to be camera ready. I already added to my cart some outfits which I had been eyeing for a while and now had the perfect excuse to buy them even though they were pricey, but hey, I needed to look my best. I also got a colleague of mine in the bank then who was on leave to help me bring them back as I didn’t want any excuses biko.

His twin’s wedding was on December 23rd and 24th 2016 and my outfits including my hair and makeup look were all ready as at October 2016.

On that day,  I woke up early, slayed my face beat and put on my much-reserved dress which I didn’t allow my friends see. I rehearsed my surprised look and picture-perfect smile and angles when he pops the question. He came to pick me up and complimented my dress and I was like “yasssss, today is so gonna be perfect”.

In a nutshell, the ela oju nkan I got that day was out of this world. I got back to my hotel room so pissed and narrated my frustrations to my sister and best friends while they kept laughing at me.  He came to my hotel room at 12 am and said we should dress up for the club outing, and I was like “why on earth does he want to propose to me at the club? ” Isn’t it too dark for pictures? But then I quickly shook off the thought and wore my back up plan proposal sequin filled body and denim in order not to look like I put in any effort (I put in my best efforts). Fast forward to the club, 2 am, 3 am, no proposal. I was even using style to check his pocket for any bulging box of the ring but nothing was there. I got so angry and immediately demanded to be taken back to my hotel room even though my friends and his friends were not ready to leave. Taiye got an earful of my frustration and disappointment every day for the next 4 days. He kept laughing at me every time which just annoyed me the more and later I gave up.

Taiye’s birthday was on the 3rd of January and I had to stay up on the 2nd till 12 am on the 3rd to be the first to wish him a happy birthday (it’s sort of a ritual for me to my baby and loved ones) although I was super sleepy. As usual, I sang with my bathroom never-ever-going-to-win-MTN-project-fame-voice which he loves and he asked us to have a private dinner later in the day. Of course, I was so sure he wasn’t going to propose at a private dinner because he is not that kind of man, so I wasn’t bothered about the perfect hair and nail and all that jazz.

Now at that time, I worked with Fidelity Bank Plc, so I had no free time to dress up until I got home around 7 pm. I planned to surprise him as he warned me already not to get him any gift that year but of course, I wasn’t having it. Around 10 am, I called Nuts About Cake to place an order for his favourite cake flavour and had it delivered to his office. I did all my work on time so I could leave early to get him a gift. I then asked my colleagues one after the other to escort me and help in selecting the best birthday gift but funny, they all had one excuse or the other why they couldn’t leave the office.

Eventually, one of the new male staff agreed to follow me. While I was at Montaigne Place gift hunting, Taiye called me to ask where I was and I lied that I went for marketing with a colleague. He then said he just received the cake and he loved it, then he reminded me of our dinner plans. Just after the call, my colleagues started calling me one by one with different emergencies that needed my attention. I drove like a mad woman and my Instagram kept giving me so many notifications but I was too much in a hurry to see to check them.

I got to the bank 10 minutes later only to enter the banking hall and find the bank’s staff and customers with their phones filming including my siblings and one of my best friends Ego. I was surprised to see my siblings and best friends as I wasn’t expecting them, so I hurriedly greeted them and wanted to rush upstairs to sort out the issues so I could start heading home to dress up. Suddenly my amebo side eye caught some petals arranged in the middle of the banking hall. Amebo like me, I slowly went to look and suddenly, my baby stepped out of the corner where he had been hiding to go on a bended knee and started telling me stuff. Honestly, I didn’t hear all he said because my mind was so clouded with thoughts of how I missed spotting all the signs. Then I heard will you marry me? At that point, I wanted to cry but then I remember that I had sworn not to cry, so I fought back the small tear and smiled with my Yes. At that moment I wanted to take a selfie and then realized he had already proposed on IG and the notifications I was getting were his followers and friends demanding I said yes. I got a proposal cake and we still went to the dinner which was no more private as my siblings and best friends came along to celebrate.

Enjoy the Whole Process
If you can get a wedding planner, please do. Planning can be very stressful especially if you aren’t one great at organising, you will just become a bridezilla. Worry less about trying to get everything regarding wedding planning to be perfect and try to enjoy the whole process and the D Day itself. It only comes once you know. Get your friends who are willing to help you out and relieve you of any stress. Carry God all through your wedding plans and marriage. Most importantly, focus most on the journey of being a good woman, virtuous wife and great mother

BN Style: Wifey-for-Lifey Valentine’s Day Lingerie Tips and Tricks

$

Wifey, Madam, Mrs, those first heady first few months with the new moniker are definitely thrilling. He liked it, and he put a ring on it. But as with everything, time has a knack of muting our excitement, appreciation and wonder. Call it comfort, call it busy schedules, call it what it really should be called which is complacency, but many couples arrive at the advent of Valentine’s Day filled with dread.

This is the day that romance is meant to be front and centre, where you are meant to capture some of that crazy-in-love spark from the early days of dating, not mumble your way through niceties along with all the other couples booked in the same restaurant doing exactly the same thing. As an eternal optimist, romantic and still delighted to be here Naija Wifey, I present some tips and tricks to make sure the evening is pure sizzle. Warning; this article is not for the faint-hearted. Commitment to being a hotter-than-hot wifey is key. Well you did make vows right? For a quick reminder check your left hand or admire this marvel from Cartier.

Photo: Courtesy Cartier.com

For the love of God, (and him) make an effort with your underpinnings. It’s Val’s Day girl, and those big-pants (unless they are from Cadolle in which case I salute you, hail you and am right behind you), are a defo no-go, no-how, no-wear situation. Lingerie should be on point, as in so devastating that you are a one woman explosion. For inspo look no further than Naomi Campbell photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth for this frankly seminal, sensational and my own personal forever get-my-sexy-on reference point Agent Provocateur shoot way back in 2015.

Photo: Ellen Von Unwerth for Agent Provocateur

I mean come on, which husband is not going to switch his phone, tablet, shoot his whole life to silent if he is met with this kind of visual scenario on the 14th? And for those wanting to add a spot of patriotism to proceedings (whilst of course checking everything is okay with the ignition Oga), this green number is everything.

Photo: Ellen Von Unwerth for Agent Provocateur

For those of us based in Lagos, there are a number of boutiques that can help us get our kit together. Two complete winners are Sshhh Lingerie Boutique based at 12e Admiralty Way Lekki Phase 1 and Aimanosi Lingerie based at 15 Military Street, 4th floor Onikan. Shhh Lingerie Boutique was founded by Joy Adesanya, a woman who took her passion for lingerie to the next level, offering a fabulous edit from leading lingerie designers around the world. Speaking to yours truly she shared “Lingerie is about confidence, emancipation and sensuality. It’s an opportunity for women to explore their bodies and connect with what works with them.” I couldn’t agree more and what will find in the boutique is a veritable who’s who of brands from Mimi Holliday to Nubian Skin and Bluebella.

Photo: Courtesy Nubian Skin

This particular Nubian Skin number is perfect for the shy wifey who prefers to keep things subtle. But for bonus points and proper Valentine’s Day Goals accessorize with a jar of Nutella and a spoon. I need not explain further!

Aimanosi was founded by Emalohi Iruobe and the brand committed to body positivity and self-love. With a tag line is “everybody is in.” all wifeys can participate. Emalohi elaborates further: “We are inclusive in our representation and intend to fit every woman regardless of her physical appearance and make her feel special, supported and sexy.” Designing and producing in Nigeria she has created pieces that go up to larger cup sizes, a bonus for the plus-size ladies out there.

Photo: Courtesy of Aimanosi

For Valentine’s Day I would recommend the ‘Wrap Me Up Flowers In The Garden’ Set.  Front fastening and with a guaranteed party in the back thong brief , the pretty floral embroidery on this piece is the perfect combination of feminine and seductive. Greet him well and he will love you forever!

So we have covered the lingerie tips, now onto those Madam Michief after dark tricks. If you are wanting to keep things basic but effective, some video vixen moves to the latest club bangers on a pre-selected playlist should do the trick. Do not, I repeat, do not be shy. Channel your inner stripper and to quote the old  Notorious BIG/P-Diddy lyric: ‘I need you to dance, I need you to strip, I need you to shake your lil’ ass and hips I need you to grind like you’re working for tips. And give me what I need while we listen to Prince‘ If you are really getting into the zone, maybe even accept those notes from his wallet with alacrity, you are making it rain after all! And don’t forget to wear a stripper shoe – only a clear lucite heel will do, but because you are a Bella Stylista, make it modern and fashion-forward with either of these offerings from Balmain:

Photo: InDigital

Photo: InDigital

Or if you are looking for a shoe that one could rock to the office the morning after and give you a naughty reminder of the night before these classic python sandals from Salvatore Ferragamo are just the ticket and  fit the brief as they have an of-the-night-for-the-night lucite heel.

Photo: InDigital

For those who are more adventurous set up the selfie stick and indulge in some For-His-Eyes-Only videos and send at hourly intervals to his phone. Lose the ‘Good-Girl’ persona in these messages, you have 364 days to be a paragon of virtue, this is all about creating something altogether more outre. If this feels a bit de trop, then leave a hand-written saucy note in his jacket pocket or his wallet, somewhere only he will read it. The aim of this game is to amp up anticipation and to remind him you are more than a career woman/mother of his children/sisi-of-life/ daughter-in-law of the year (nod to as many as apply to you), and are a grown woman who desires him and him alone.

Photo: Bello Games New York

Finally, there is the ‘Dice Game’. There are many variations, but basically you and hubby will ascribe to a number on the dice a suitably saucy activity. Roll, do, repeat. Yes, quite the addictive past-time and with some  Swarovski encrusted dice you can get your sexy-on in style.

So, you see Wifey-For-Lifey moves need not mean that you have closed the door on red hot passion. Quite the opposite, as with intimacy comes adventure. And because you are not fretting of what he might think of you in the morning, or whether he will text or worse ghost you, you can enjoy an inhibition free experience. A fist bump to all my fellow Madams out there, let the ‘enjoyment’ of the life-long kind commence!

The poetry of love.

We love this beautiful bridal styled shoot laced with poetry tagged Picture Perfect created by Jide Odukoya in collaboration with some talented wedding vendors in Lagos.
The storyline features a lady who was once heartbroken and now trying to find true love.

Enjoy!

Left; A position suddenly turned into a state
Scars; Jagged lines around my hurt torn heart
Tears; Silver crystals you left in your place
Bars: Inner sanctum to keep others out

Sacred space well hidden by me
Starred bandages on my wounded heart
Scarlet wrappings so none could see
A testament of a well-played part

I did not give out any passes
My guards were up there was no compromising
Still, you were able to slip through my defences
Into this sacred space, my place of hiding

Because I am no different from you
Our love found me a way through
When would you admit that which you have refused to see
It is not possible that I only let you be

Broken hearts or starry eyes?
Dying dreams or leaping hopes?
Holding back or moving on?
Past forgetting or tomorrow embracing?

I am here to stay
Not like the last
I am your only
And to me, you have no past

On this day we start forever
You have forever to truly see
There could never have been another
If another was never me

You are precious and true
And even if I could be with everyone else,
Who I would want is you.
How could I leave you?
Did you forget I chose you?
I was not compelled to.
But still, I had to
You needed love
And I needed someone to love
Don’t you realize?
Even though you were hiding
I was the one in need of saving

Picture perfect
Perfect picture
Pictured perfect
Perfected picture

The filler and the filled
The healer and the healed
The lover and the beloved
To forever and renewed

Aww! We love this!

#BNBling: I Cannot Wait to Spend the Rest of My Life with this Superman! Cynthia & Jide’s #CJLoveStory + Proposal

Cynthia and Jide have always been in each other’s circle from when they were kids. They attended the same primary, secondary and even university together but never got into a relationship until one fateful day when things changed forever.

Jide who is a weddings photographer set out to plan the perfect surprise proposal for his love and he sure did. Cynthia confirmed this when she said, “Everything was just too beautiful, the man of my dreams on his knees, my perfect ring – a big rock, the ambience.”

We can’t wait for #CJLoveStory!

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple love that is forever!

How We Met
By The Groom-To-Be, Jide

Cynthia and I went to the same primary, secondary school and university. Both my dad and her mum were staff members of the same institution but we had only shared a few hi’s.
It was in 2013, at a mutual friend’s wedding that I will say we officially met. I was at a table being my usual lousy self with my group of miscreant friends when she walked in and sat at the table. I whispered to my twin friends “Omo see my girlfriend” and we both laughed.

It was a Herculean task getting Cynthia’s number. I asked about three of her friends but they all kept posting me. I took my fate in my hands and went to look for her by myself. Thank God for Twitter (I roast tire for that DM sha oh), and BBM (when she finally promoted me). Line by line, joke by joke, date by date, it took a while, but I finally got her to say the much awaited “Jide, I love you”.

Oh lest I forget, after we had started dating, I saw her selfies from the wedding and there I was in the background of every single picture. Ehen! So she was checking me out that day too? (She still maintains it’s coincidence but I believe one or two pictures can be coincidental not so many selfies with me in it. Lol.

Our Proposal Story
By The Bride-to-Be, Cynthia

Jide had been owing me a vacation to Dubai for so long, in fact, I had a Dubai flight ticket that had been rescheduled more than thrice because there’s always one wedding or the other making him busy. I can’t complain too much, I am dating a workaholic.

I have always wanted an intimate proposal, but with the most important people to me involved – my brother and my best friends. I believe I might have mentioned this in passing and he was attentive enough to catch it (don’t wanna give him the credit of being so accurate with his plan 😈).

We packed for the trip, Dubai here we come. Finally! I searched his whole house for a ring, the whole travel boxes… No ring; so this guy won’t propose to me in this our Dubai Waka. When we got to Dubai, he took me shopping to buy a dress and said we were going to a house party with his longtime friend that lives in Dubai, I tried on a few dresses and we arrived at one. I should have guessed.

We left for the party later that evening, his longtime friend took us there, and on opening the door to the “house party”; boom! It was our pictures, and balloons and rose petals, with gentle music playing in the background. He led me to the balcony and I saw four of our closest friends holding balloons. Nobody told me Y’all were in Dubai 😱

Just when I thought the surprise was over, then comes my brother, my only sibling walking in with the ring in his hand. My brother was the ring bearer 😍😍😍 I didn’t even know when I screamed out loud. Jide was on his knees and started his proposal speech, let me confess, I didn’t hear a thing. Everything was just too beautiful, the man of my dreams on his knees, my perfect ring – a big rock, the ambience.

I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with this Superman, workaholic, fire dancer, creative eyes, footballer, computer whiz,  Jidekola. I am so proud to be “Jide’s Queen”

Issa wedding… #CJLoveStory

Jide‘s Version

This was a big mental project. Buying her ring was the toughest part, we created a group of myself and her closest friends and started the “Project X”. Everyone seemed to know what she didn’t want, but no idea of what she wanted. I consulted everyone I could in getting the perfect ring, I even called Ink Eze at a point to get an expert opinion. Thank God for rings.ng who came my way and solved my puzzle.

Cynthia and I had been postponing a Dubai holiday for a bit and we finally decided to go in 2018. Perfect time to propose and obvious too. So, I knew I had to do something unexpected. I got her closest friends, my sister and her only brother to go to Dubai also, unknown to her. Everything went just as planned, and she said yes!

Aww 😍 #cjlovestory #BNBling We left for the party later that evening, his long time friend took us there, and on opening the door to the “house party”; boom! It was our pictures, and balloons and rose petals, with gentle music playing in the background. He led me to the balcony and I saw four of our closest friends holding balloons. Nobody told me y’all were in Dubai 😱😱😱 Just when I thought the surprise was over, then comes my brother, my only sibling walking in with the ring in his hand… My brother was the ring bearer 😍😍😍 I didn’t even know when I screamed out loud. Jide was on his knees and started his proposal speech, let me confess, I didn’t hear a thing… Everything was just too beautiful, the man of my dreams on his knees, my perfect ring – a big rock, the ambience. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with this superman… workaholic… fire dancer… creative eyes… footballer… computer whiz… Jidekola. He Fell in Love The minute He saw Her Picture! Folake & Ademola ‘s Beautiful #Fab2018 Wedding

$

The first time Ademola saw Folake‘s picture, he knew he wanted them to be more than friends and when he saw her for the first time, he knew she had to be his forever love. Their love story is oh so cute. The couple traditionally married at the

Ruby Gardens, Lagos and had their church ceremony and reception at Landmark Events Centre, Lagos. The couple looked amazing in their different outfits for both ceremonies.

Here’s a little backstory of how they met.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple love and happiness together.

How We Met
By The Bride, Folake

I was in Lagos for a month in January 2016 and I attended a traditional engagement. I returned to The UK and the bride called me that a friend of her husband saw my picture and he asked If we could swipe numbers and that was it. He lives in America and I live in the UK. So since the 8th of February, we only had phone conversations. He was due to travel to Nigeria in May so we had to make that a meeting point. He planned to do a stopover in Paris since he has never been there and wanted to explore the city. He asked if I could join him and I said yes. Paris was so much fun that he decided to return to London with me for a couple of more days before travelling to Nigeria.

The Groom, Ademola‘s Version

I went to my boy’s house as he just got back from Nigeria from his traditional engagement. A group of us met up at his house to look through his wedding pictures and that’s when I saw Folake. I just had to ask who she was and if I had a shot with her. It just so happened she was single. I was given her number with her permission and that’s how it started on the 8th of February 2017. Since Folake and I lived in different countries,  I had to think quickly how we could meet. I was due to travel to Nigeria in May so I asked if she would be okay travelling to Paris as our first official meeting as I really wanted to explore Paris with her and she agreed. After talking on the phone for a few months, we met in Paris May 2016 then I travelled back to London with her.

 Our Proposal
By The Bride, Folake
I always spend Christmas in Texas with my family and since this was our first Christmas as a couple we just had to spend it together. Since he had never visited Texas, we decided to meet there so we could spend it together. On Christmas morning, he woke me up, wished me happy first Christmas together (lol) and before I could even look at him he was already on one knee. With a box in his hand, it all happened so fast.
Ademola‘s Version
When I met her in Paris,  I knew I was going to marry her! Six months after we met in Paris, I started shopping for rings (never been here before I didn’t know what I was looking for). I read articles on how much an engagement should be based on a man’s salary.  I asked for her input on what type or shape she wanted her ring to look like. So, I integrated her input, the articles, and mine and when I saw the ring I knew this was going to be it.
I knew I didn’t want an audience during the proposal because I felt it should be an intimate moment between both parties. We were going to visit New Orleans for Christmas while visiting her sister in Houston but that did not happen the way we anticipated it. She had spent the night with me at my Hotel and on Christmas morning when we woke up, I asked her if she will marry me and she said Yes! The rest is history.

This Couple has Travelled to 26 Countries Together! Ekene and Ajaeze’s Romantic Love Story and Epic Pre-Wedding Shoot in Greece

$

Let’s take you on a dreamy trip to the gorgeous city of Santorini in Greece. Be ready to be blown away by the beautiful site and most importantly the sweet love story of Ekene and Ajaeze.

The couple met in 2012 at a graduation ceremony through a mutual friend. They remained friends but never dated. Ajaeze was even the best man at Ekene eldest sister’s wedding. Time went by and in 2016, Ekene arrived at Ajaeze’s office for investment management and advice since he was considered one of the top financial advisors in the state of Georgia. Being a gentleman that he is, Ajaeze offered Ekene a bottle of water during the meeting which Ekene forgot to pick up when she was leaving.

Ajaeze felt this was his chance to win her heart through a bottle of water. He sent her a text the following day with a picture of the bottled water sitting in the same spot she left it saying “Hey you left your water“. Ekene responded saying “hold it for me“. In return, Ajaeze responded by saying “I will bring it to you“. This was how their relationship started with a bottle of water.

Since then, Ajaeze and Ekene have been inseparable. They both had amazing dreams of travelling the world and building an empire and decided to do so in 2017.

In 2017 the couple visited 26 countries, one of them was Santorini, Greece where Ajaeze got on his knees and professed his love and intentions to Ekene, asking her to be his wife.

The couple, now popularly known as “ISEKO” (Isaac Ajaeze + Ekene Onu), after visiting over 26 countries together over the past year, decided to return to Santorini in 2018 with their photographer, makeup artist, and wedding planner for their epic engagement photo shoot. Their plan is to have a mega wedding in Atlanta, Georgia at the largest Aquarium in the world ( The GA Aquarium) where they will seal their love for eternity in front of close family and friends.

Together as a couple,  they have built The ISEKOlife Movement, which is a lifestyle brand that encourages financial freedom, experiencing the world through travelling, happiness, love, and wisdom through hard work and unity.
We would end this #BNBling feature with the couple’s favourite quote which says, “You never know when Love will strike, but when it does, it is absolutely beautiful.”

Enjoy more of their breathtaking engagement photos!

BellaNaija Weddings
wishes the couple a blissful life of love, happiness and peace together.

A Celebration of Love, Culture and Beauty! Kelechi and Frank’s Elegant Wedding #Frankelz2018

What are the odds that in the same year you caught your friend’s bouquet at her wedding, you meet the love of your life and the next year, you get proposed to? This is the exact love story of Kelechi and Frank who met after a friend introduced them.

Kelechi wore a white feathered ball gown by Mynamour and a burgundy mermaid dress by Toju Foyeh for her white wedding ceremony. She and her groom looked amazing in all their traditional outfits which showed such a rich and vibrant celebration of culture. Two major highlights of the reception were their grand entrance which saw them come into the reception venue from a huge glittering silver disco ball and Phyno‘s performance which had everyone dancing.

Here is a little backstory of how the meet.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple a love-filled marriage together.

How We Met
By The Bride, Kelechi

They say that most times, we find love in places where we never even imagined. It all Started when I caught the bouquet at my friend’s wedding on the 10th of December 2016. For some reason, I took it really personal and serious. I was like, “God is this a sign?” I remember even praying over it that night. Fast forward to some weeks later, I went for a church programme in Delta state and a friend of mine whom I bumped into said she wanted to introduce me to someone. In my mind, I was over it because I was kind of used to that referral shenanigans but who would have thought that it could be the way I would meet my other half.

She introduced us but the truth is, meeting him for the first time, I was smitten even though I never showed. He was also smitten. Trust me, we got talking and I have never felt such way with any man on meeting for the first time. In my mind, I was like “Hmm Chineke, God are you telling me something”. Trust me, there and then, I already made up my mind that this is the kind of man I will like to spend the rest of my life with.

Our Proposal
Before I could say, Jack Robinson, the introduction to his family had gone so fast and every of his family already knew me. He took the bold step of going to meet my family, My dad precisely and this was when I knew he was serious. When a man wants you, he can do everything in his power to show how serious and committed he is.

It happened like a movie and he finally popped the question a few months later. Who am I to say No? Of course, I do want to Marry you, Frank! I have never felt at home like you make me do.

I am So Happy to be Spending the Rest of My Life with You! Doreen & Eddie’s Love Story + Pre-Wedding Shoot #Eddo2018

Doreen met Eddie at a place she least expected and in not the best of circumstances. As destiny would have it, love happened.  Their forever story is so so sweet and their interpretation of each pre-wedding look is beautiful.

Here is a little backstory of how they met.

How We Met
By The Bride-To-Be, Doreen

I met this handsome man in 2011 at a phone shop in Warri Delta State. It is a day I will never forget because it was more like love at first sight for me. We had an issue when he asked me to pay a certain amount for my phone and I refused because I thought the bill was too much. He asked me to go not knowing he added me on BBM. We started chatting after that day. I was hurt when I found out he had a girlfriend who he kept showing off on BBM. After a while, he left the country and we lost contact. Fast forward to 2014, destiny brought us back. I am just so happy to be spending the rest of my life with this God-fearing, kindhearted and loving man. I can’t wait to be his WIFE!

Eddie‘s Version

Well, we met in Delta state, Nigeria at a mobile phone shop about 2011 and it all started with a heated argument. I later found a way and stole her BBM pin and started trolling her until we got to meet on December 25th, 2011 which was where it all began. Unfortunately, we lost contact for a while, but God’s plans would not be changed as we later got back in touch in the beginning of 2014. Since then, we’ve been in a loving relationship till date. The big step of the proposal was done January 12th, 2018 at Aqua safari resort in Ghana. Forever starts now.

Our Proposal Story
By The Bride-To-Be, Doreen

I got engaged on January 12, 2018, at  Aqua Safari in Ghana. He told me we were going on a trip after the new year celebration which will be a vacation because we didn’t spend the holidays the way we wanted to. He bought me a new hair weave & he took me to the salon to fix my hair & nails. When we got to Aqua Safari, we went for a boat cruise with a close friend of his. We got to the other side of the beach and that was when he touched my dress and when I turned around it was a ring in front of me. I couldn’t believe it.  I was shocked and happy at the same time.  I had no clue he was going to propose. That was one of the happiest days of my life!

I Love You and I’ll be with You Forever! Shola & Kingsley’s #TheKings17 Wedding

$

Shola and Kingsley’s love story is the perfect example of being at the right place at the right time. The beautiful couple met when Shola went visiting her friends in school. They bonded instantly. From the first time Kingsley met Shola, he knew he loved her and wanted to be with her forever. He actually told her his intentions from that day which intrigued Shola. They became friends and later went into a relationship which then blossomed into their beautiful forever journey.

The proposal story told by the bride is so interesting and her pre-wedding advice to brides-to-be and grooms-to-be is apt. Their full feature which includes their white wedding and traditional wedding ceremony will take you on their love journey together.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple a blissful life of love together.

How We Met
By The Bride, Shola

I met KayC in 2006 when visiting friends at his university for a girl’s weekend. We quickly got talking about our summer holidays, my trip to Singapore and his trip around Europe. He dropped me off with my friends and I politely thanked him. Later in the evening, our whole group was having dinner and one of my friends pulled me aside to tell me she noticed KayC checking me out. I laughed and continued with my dinner.

After dinner, we were playing games and just chilling, when KayC decided to sit beside me. He asked if I was okay and having fun. I replied I was having a good time. After a few minutes, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk, I agreed. During our walk, we talked for a few hours and towards the end of the night, he said, “I know it’s too early but I love you and I am going to be with you forever“. I thought he was joking at first. I was shocked and burst out laughing. I told him, “I am sorry, I just met you and how can you be sure you love me!” He said he will prove his love. I went back at the end of the weekend and we kept in touch. I remember waking up every morning to messages from him and speaking to him almost daily. He was persistent and after a few months, I decided to give him a chance. We have been together ever since and survived many moves and time zones and kept our relationship going through the years with lots of Skype calls and travelling.

Kingsley‘s Version

I met Shola when she came to visit our mutual friends at the University of Nottingham. After being introduced, we had a lot of interesting conversations and it was obvious that although we had different characters and personality traits, we shared much more in common. Friendship, our faith in God and the need to strive for success were important factors for us. I felt our hearts were in agreement and she epitomised the woman of my dreams. Our story is not complete without giving all thanks and glory to God for keeping and seeing us through this journey. Our special thanks also go to our family and friends that have played an integral role in our lives.

Our Proposal

KayC had travelled to Toronto to ask for my dad’s blessing in September 2015. So I was excitedly expecting the engagement soon after the trip. I thought he was going to propose on our anniversary in October but that didn’t happen. The next event was his PhD graduation and I thought he was going to propose right after and he still didn’t so I just gave up. One of the things we have in common is our love of travelling and adventure. We always plan and agree on our trips. One of the places on our list was Rome. I was surprised when KayC called me late one afternoon in June to tell me he had booked a trip for us to Rome for the next day and he was coming to pick me up first thing in the morning.

I knew this was probably the proposal so I asked him if we could move the trip by a day so you know I could organise. He said it was not possible and I just had to get ready. I had to quickly call my sister Temi to help me. She was unusually nice and helpful. She was our drama queen and was overly nice. I later got to know KayC had informed her of his intention. KayC was at my door at 5 am as our flight was by 7 am. We went to Rome and had a fantastic time. On our last night, I knew that was the night so I wore the outfit my sister had picked for me. I was expecting the proposal at dinner or after dinner. He made me get ready for dinner two hours before as I am always late.

We had dinner, there was no proposal, no ring in my dessert or drink. In my mind, I was like what’s the meaning of this after all this stress. We were making after dinner plans and one of the things we did the night before was to go out on a tour of the city. We were planning to do the rest that night and I told him that I could not do the tour wearing heels as I wanted to change into flats since dinner was over and no proposal.

I was on my way to change my shoes and he decided to follow me saying he wanted to change as well before we embarked on the tour. We both got up to our room quietly not saying a word to each other and upon entering our room, it was filled with roses and an Italian man singing. KayC got on one knee and was saying some things I can’t remember. I was so shocked that I couldn’t speak and if you know me, you will know I talk a lot. The people in the room were like it’s a yes right, I was like it’s a yes. I couldn’t do all the jumping and running drama I had planned in my head as I was completely caught off guard. It was beautiful and thinking about it still makes me shiver.

Some Pre-Wedding Planning Tips That Helped Me
Start early! Get your shoes, accessories dresses etc. as early as you can. You are the guest of honour so why not. My mum started shopping for fabrics before we even picked colours. For my introduction, I had a choice of fabrics to choose from and I didn’t have to start shopping. It saves you a lot of stress and last minute rush. As towards the end, a lot of things require money and some are even unplanned so it’s always better to start early!

Don’t lose touch with your partner during the planning process. Make sure you carve out time to spend together and actually date not just wedding talk every time. This was important for us as coming from two different cultures, he is from Rivers and I am Yoruba. we had to make sure we were solid as a unit as sometimes your families and in-laws can add to your stress level. Also keeping your partner in the loop will save you a lot of arguments and always be ready for a compromise.

Plan a trip with your partner before the wedding if you can. We did and it was the best thing.

Pray, pray, pray! Prayer makes the impossible happen and also sets the foundation for a good home.

Finally get a good planner! Do your research while shopping for a planner. I spoke with different planners and I connected with  Deola of 2706Events almost immediately. She is like my sister now. I was not in the country and she looked at halls for us by herself before we even signed her on. A good planner will save you a lot of stress.

The Yoruba traditional wedding ceremony is a very interesting one. The groom is made to prostrate on the floor in respect to his in laws to ask for the hand of their daughter (his bride). The Alaga (MC) interrogates him of his intention, which usually ends up being a fun conversation. #TheKings17  More on www.bellanaija.com/weddings or the link in our bio #BellaNaijaWeddings Video @sokoyokoto_ Planner @2706events Makeup @banksbmpro AsoOke @patrickayanski Beads @geebalo Eru Iyawo @eruiyawoconcepts Photography @femionatugaphotography Decor @aquariantouchevents Cake @heladodelicia Bride’s Second Outfit @lanredasilvaajayi Bride’s Third Outfit @lanredasilvaajayi Groom’s Second outfit @voditailors Bride’s Shoes @renecaovilla | @dolcegabbana Groom’s Shoes @giuseppezanotti Décor @aquariantouchevents Alaga @sokoyokoto_ DJ @iamdjlammy Venue Balmoral Convention Center, Federal Palace Hotel

#BNBling: Doyin & Ayo’s Super Sweet Proposal Story #AYDO2017

This BN Bling story is so so interesting and detailed that we would leave the narrating to the couple Dayo and Ayo. it was also beautifully captured by Quadosh Photography.

Enjoy!

Our Proposal Story

Ayo: It was a random Thursday, we’d celebrated our 2-year “anniversary” the weekend before but there’s no way I’d have done it then. That would be too obvious. Also, Doyin had always said if I ever proposed in a restaurant or in front of a huge crowd of friends, she’d probably say NO!

Doyin: I was happy he didn’t propose on anniversary weekend, as it would have been too predictable and I like random surprises. I was ready for a solid day of work and my nails looked amazing as Ayo had generously treated me to a manicure at the weekend.

Ayo: I’d contacted Doyin’s boss and asked if she could have half the day off, she was so cool about it. On the day I sent a sealed envelope and asked her to hand it to Doyin at 3 pm prompt.

Doyin: Halfway through my day at work, my boss started smiling loads and gave me a note. My first words were “am I in trouble”? To which she smiled and said, “no, just open the note”. I opened it to see Ayo’s distinctive handwriting saying “if you thought the fun ended at the weekend, then you were wrong”. I knew the proposal was imminent and I think I was slightly more excited about getting to leave work early 😉 (joking Ayo).

Ayo: The plan was, a taxi would pick her up from work and was given strict instructions not to tell her the destination.

Doyin: I jumped into the taxi and my first question was “where am I going?”. Ayo knowing how skeptical I can be, sent me all the taxi license plates as he knew I wouldn’t step foot near it without them. I was awaiting a glass of champagne to be passed to me, but unfortunately Uber don’t do this…

Ayo: Whilst she was at work, I went to Doyin’s flat and picked out an entire outfit for her to wear. I had a little panic so I had to call Yewande, her sister, to confirm I’d made good choices.

So the taxi took her home, where she found the outfit and a note laid out on her bed. With instructions to be ready by 6 pm.

Doyin: My first thought was “please God don’t make the proposal be in my flat…I need good selfies to capture the moment” and my flat wouldn’t be my first choice location. Ayo knowing me too well made the stop off in my flat a decoy and had laid out one of my favourite dress, a rose and another note. He’s so thoughtful and even put out my favourite scarf as he knows I’m always chilly.

Ayo: A second taxi picked her up, again with strict instructions not to disclose the destination and took her to the restaurant where we had our very first date.

Doyin: I tried multiple times to map out the route the driver was taking to guess where we were going but kept getting it wrong so gave up and awaited our destination.

Ayo: During the meal, I was so nervous I couldn’t even eat my dinner! To be honest it wasn’t the fear that she’d say no, I just wanted it to be perfect.

Doyin: We arrived at Hawksmoor in Knightsbridge and I was starving. Ayo walked down the stairs, looking very handsome, in a velvet blazer, a lapel pin and his beard trimmed to perfection. I had never seen him so nervous, but I loved it and kept laughing inside me. He couldn’t even finish his steak which was a rarity.

Ayo: At the end of the meal, the waiter delivered the third envelope to Doyin, she opened it, laughed and said “you didn’t need a note for that, I’m right in front of you so you could have just told me” #KillJoy

Doyin: The bill came with another note. I thought, hmmm will my ring be in the desert, but once again Ayo knows me too well. He knows I would probably eat my dessert too fast and potentially choke on the ring, so he decided to leave me in even more suspense.

Ayo: The note told her that there was one more location to visit before the night was over… and we jumped in another taxi.

Doyin: Another taxi appeared…I thought it might be a limousine, but the shiny Uber was still comfortable.

Ayo: I’d contacted the organisers of an event called the Magical Lantern Festival in Chiswick House Gardens. I’d seen a picture of a beautifully illuminated bandstand and knew immediately that’s where I wanted to get on one knee.  I asked if I could propose in that exact location and if they could give me exclusive access and they actually said yes!

In the taxi, Doyin saw signs to Heathrow airport and said, “Ayo we’d better not be leaving the country because I have an important event tomorrow!”

Most girls would be excited at the possibility of a surprise trip abroad, but clearly not Doyin. Thankfully Heathrow wasn’t our destination.

Doyin: I didn’t want to seem ungrateful but I had a massive event the following day at work and was a bit concerned this taxi was driving to Heathrow. I’m a massive planner and I knew Ayo wouldn’t let me travel without my special travelling packing template.

Ayo: Trying to act casual, I started frantically texting my friend Dayo (Quadosh photography) to make sure he was in place. We arrived at the gardens and we casually walked through admiring the night-time displays. I walked her to the bandstand and standing there was a man who introduced himself as a caricature artist and he offered to draw us.

Doyin: I was thinking when on earth will Ayo actually propose. I thought maybe this was all a trick and today wouldn’t be the day. I had no clue Dayo was hiding, blacked out, in the bushes taking pictures.

Ayo: I was thinking Doyin hadn’t realised that he’s an artist I’d paid to be there especially for the proposal.

Doyin: When I saw the caricature artist, I thought yay today is the day (lol)! Ayo being the amazing listener he is, knew I always wanted my caricature drawn and added this special addition to the evening which was a lovely touch.

Ayo: The artist pretends to draw and after a bit of chat he revealed a fantastic drawing of me on one knee asking Doyin to marry me. As she turns around surprised I was knelt behind her holding out the ring.

I said some words (none of which Doyin actually remembers) she wiped the tears from her eyes and she said yes! – She won’t admit it but she definitely cried!

Doyin: Ayo finally gets on one knee which for some reason I find hilarious and start laughing. He says a lot of words which I honestly cannot remember (I even told him a few weeks ago to remind me what he actually said). I see the ring and see my best friend on one knee. The ring was perfect! He’d clearly paid attention to all the screenshots of my ideal ring I’d sent him.

Doyin: Dayo is one of the most FUN photographers we know! Not only is he incredibly talented, working with him is always an easy, enjoyable and entertaining process! Having him shoot our proposal was a decision we will never regret. Even though it was such an intimate proposal, Dayo put all his efforts into being as discreet as possible that Doyin (the bride) had no clue he was capturing every single moment. It’s as if he was ‘007 the photographer edition’ (haha)! From being kitted out in all black to blend in with the dark knight it was, to hiding in bushes in the freezing cold, this wasn’t about just taking pictures, it was about him taking his job so seriously on the day that that attention wouldn’t be drawn away from the proposal to him. Dayo had great instructions and vision when it came to directing us and making us try out different poses. No pose was a bad pose, resulting in a massive selection of proposal pictures for us! It was freezing on the night, yet Dayo’s jokes and light-hearted personality had us laughing all night which made the time fly! What we were most impressed with was the fast turnaround time for our pictures. We didn’t have to chase him for them, he sent them to us without us having to prompt him! Any couple planning a wedding will know this quality in a vendor is such a breath of fresh air! We always recommend Dayo to friends looking for photographers for all occasions because of his versatility. When the time is right, he will definitely be on speed dial for our maternity shoot which we know will be amazing and an entertaining experience if he has anything to do with it! We love you Dayo!
