Friends in Love! Fikayo & Chino’s Exquisite Wedding #Fino17 | TrendyBE Events

Love is such a beautiful thing!

Fikayo and her sweetheart Chino tied the knot this January at the Beachfront, Landmark Centre, Lagos. It was a beautiful ceremony which had friends and families in attendance.  The couple’s love story is one of boy meet girl and falls in love. Too cute.

We hope you love their sweet and fun love story as much as we do.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple a blissful life together.

How We Met
By The Bride and Groom, Fikayo & Chino

Fikayo: We met in 2012, at a friends party. He has some weird recollections of this day though, but hey, to each his own eh?
All I know is, he has refused to leave me alone since.

Chino: I met her in 2012, at a friends party in Bradford. I saw her and  instantly fell in love. The end.

P.S: Y’all know I didn’t write that. All I will say is she had no shoes on (maybe she was going for a Cinderella vibe) & we found out she is an Ibadan girl. Ibadan!

Proposal Story

Chino: It is really hard to plan to surprise her because she seems so aware of everything around her or maybe it was just my nervousness. I had to recruit a team – her parents, brother & friends to help me plan it.

Still, it felt a bit like how she figures everything out before a movie ends. She was busy doing some quick maths – her best friends had asked her too many questions & she had seen me talking to her parents alone.

On the day, I got her friend to take her out but she wouldn’t leave the house without me! Eventually, we managed to do it and then I set about trying to set up what I had planned in my head for months, which turned out to be really difficult to execute, nothing seemed to stay in place but eventually, with the help of masking tape, I was good to go.

I will let her tell you the rest 😉

Fikayo: He popped the question in the early hours of January 1st, 2017. He had been acting so weird for weeks. I knew something was up. Anyways, he managed to keep me out of the house for most of the day so he could get everything ready. This was a struggle for him because apparently, I am stubborn and nosy.

Moving on, he took me out to a New Year’s party and we left just after the New Year countdown. We got back home and I walked into the most romantic set up ever.

There were tons of handwritten notes pegged up across the room – all of them declaring his undying love for me, obviously, and lots and lots of photos of us.

And then, with some beautiful music playing and candles for light, he got on one knee and asked. It was truly something special <3.

BBN Wonderland 3  For the love of weddings was a movie!

Baileys Nigeria and BellaNaija Weddings treated 30 Brides-to-be from all over Nigeria plus 5 friends of the hosts to a weekend of pampering, bonding and Baileys.

In one word, it was AWESOME! We will be bringing you more exclusive photos and video plus testimonials from the brides. Right now, a quick roundup!

The ultimate BBN Wonderland evening ceremony kicked off with the brides-to-be getting glammed up by talented artists from Black Opal Nigeria. They had their hair styled by the creative Ferdinard Hair.

It was finally time for the big night which kicked off with a relaxing cocktail reception at the Skyline Terrace of Oriental Hotel. They danced into the hall and were met by their host for the night Bovi.

Did we mention we loved our dessert table? Yes we did!

Veteran movie star Richard Mofe Damijo shared great advice of marriage, companionship and how he was able to find love again in his second marriage after his first wife died. RMD has been happily married for 19 years and attended the event with his daughter from his first marriage.

Our host for the night Bovi decided to find out the bride-to-be with the best Shaku Shaku dance skills. You can tell from the video who won the competition right? Lol!

Award-winning music producer Cobhams Asuquo and his wife Ojuolape shared how they were friends for 15 years before they got married. Fun fact: The first day Cobhams saw his wife, he told her he would marry her and the next week, he started dating someone else. It was such a lovely love story to hear!

Newlywed Adesua Etomi also shared wedding planning tips and how to build a lasting relationship with your partner during the planning phase.

Tiwa Savage surprised the brides with an intimate music performance. She danced the night away with them and they sure loved it.

DJ Spinall sure ensured the ladies had a fantastic after party. Can you tell?

Do you think we forgot about our BBN Wonderland gift box? Every single bride-to-be left with the ultimate swag box and sure loved it.

Ugochi V. Ukah: Are Bridesmaids to Pay for Their Dresses at Your Wedding?

$
0
0

In the spirit of the past holiday and all the weddings and engagements that took place, once again, I had this conversation which I have had several times with some friends. The question is “should bridesmaids pay for the dresses they wear on the wedding day?” As we know, there are the bridesmaids for the “white” or church wedding and the asoebi girls for the traditional wedding; some people also have asoebi girls for their white wedding.

Everyone knows that weddings cost a lot, including financially, energy- and time-wise, and that bridesmaids are typically friends of the bride who are there to support her on her wedding day. Although, contributing money is a way of showing support, I do not think that bridesmaids (not asoebi girls) should pay for their dresses and I will give you some reasons why.

First of all, 90% of the bridesmaid dresses that I have seen are ugly! Yes, I said it. Don’t be deceived by the photography edit or the picture background; many of those dresses are not well sewn and have poor finishing and fitting, including the “ready-made” ones. Majority of the times, the wedding venue, picture arrangement, colours and the accessories, all add up to make everything look better than they actually are on the wedding day. So basically, the pop of colours standing next to groomsmen wearing black or the bride wearing a sparkling wedding dress, the hairbands and the dangling earrings, the flowers, the extra makeup and hairstyling specially done for the day, and just the excitement of the day, would make the bridesmaids and pictures look beautiful. However, after the wedding day has gone by and you bring out that dress that you paid $100 or more for, you start to question whether you can actually wear the dress again regardless of the colour: rose-gold, “pepper-‘em-red”, “cockroach-brown”, “yellow-fever” or “ghost-white”.

The reality for most people is that they end up never wearing the dress again, because they find out that the dress is not appropriate for work, or church, as oftentimes the dresses are too revealing; nor is it suitable to wear for another wedding because you might end up looking like a bridesmaid there, when you’re not. You might also not be able to wear it out for dates because let’s face facts, you’re not going be wearing glittery hairbands and holding flowers on your date to help the dress look better. I know some brides will tell you that you can wear the dress for a dinner party but even if the dress is among the 10% of pretty dresses, you have to ask yourself – how many dinner parties do you actually go for? And that is when you end up having one more piece of un-useful item in your suitcase.

Secondly, I think bridesmaids already do a lot for the bride and are not as appreciated as they should be. As bridesmaids, you will most likely be added to annoying WhatsApp group chats to help with the wedding planning. I say ‘annoying’ because just like many WhatsApp groups, some people post random, irrelevant things in the group that drain your phone battery and take up memory space.

Also, this often means that your phone number will be exposed to strangers; of course you might end up making new friends or in some cases, stalkers. As a bridesmaid, you will also most likely contribute financially to the bridal shower planning and buying her gifts. In addition, most brides would want you to be in the wedding area at least a night before the wedding, which means that you have to forfeit whatever you have to do, whether work or personal, and be there in time for the rehearsal. Let us also remember that bridesmaids have to be up very early in the morning of the wedding day to get themselves and the brides ready. As a bridesmaid, you might not get the time to rest or socialize on the wedding day except for being stuck with a groomsman that you might not care for, who you are also expected to hold hands with to walk down the aisle and dance into the hall with. Lest I forget, some bridesmaids fly in from far and wide to attend the wedding and transportation may be expensive. These are sacrifices that bridesmaid make to make a bride happy, to name a few.

Finally, even if you, as a bride, think that the dress is cheap, it might not be cheap to your bridesmaids. You might not know the financial situation of your friend and just because they are in your social circle does not mean that they earn as much as you do or have the same “money providers” e.g. father, boyfriends, sugar-daddies. I have heard of people borrowing money to pay for such matters just because they feel too embarrassed to tell the bride, and I think it is foolish.

Inasmuch as bridesmaids want to be there to support you on your special day, try to make things easier for them as a bride. So when I hear of brides make such demands of their bridesmaids such as asking them to pay for ugly dresses (which if you ask me, I would say that some brides pick on purpose to prevent the others from outshining them) or specific shoes, I viciously shake my head. Even though I am more likely to pay for my pair of shoes, why not be considerate and just pick a similar colour and style for everyone, so that the bridesmaids don’t have to buy a new pair if they already have something that matches? After all, most times the dresses are too long and nobody gets to see them.

Personally, I think that these costs should be added to the wedding budget instead of putting financial burden on your bridesmaids; after all, it is your wedding, not theirs! In the case of asoebi, I think the bride’s friends can pay for them although at a fair price i.e., the fabric should be at a reasonable cost. Some brides try to use their asoebi to offset other wedding costs or as a business avenue by multiplying the actual cost of fabric or by adding an extra zero (you know yourselves!). This reminds me of a time my friend paid for asoebi and the bride ended up not sending the fabric to her because she said she had run out of them. After the wedding, my friend asked for her money to be transferred back but the bride said she was going to buy another type of fabric to send to my friend. My friend was genuinely confused; the wedding had gone past so why would the bride think she needed a new fabric? Anyway, I’m sure we have heard these types of stories many times.

In conclusion, plan a wedding that you can afford. It is not compulsory to have bridesmaids if you cannot pay for your bridesmaid dresses, unless the bridesmaids contacted you themselves and told you that they wanted to pay for dresses. If you require donations, you can put out clearly labelled boxes in your wedding parties but please do not try to be cunny by extorting people. Having said these, I am not yet married so when it is my time, if I ask you to pay for bridesmaid dresses, please feel free to forward this article to me.

Actor and model Emmanuel Ikubese has said he thinks it isn’t right for a lady to propose to a man.

Speaking to Hip TV, Ikubese said he feels a lady proposing is a result of her not knowing where she stands in her man’s life.

“Let’s not turn the bible upside down,” he said, adding that we should follow the bible and what it says.

#BBNWonderland 3: Sisi Yemmie’s Epic Reaction to Bobo’s Flash Mob celebrating Their Love

$

Our theme for BBN Wonderland 3 was For The Love Of Weddings. We chose this theme to celebrate little moments that form the entire essence of weddings and marriages.  In the build-up before the event in January, we organised a surprise proposal for Elizabeth in collaboration with her sweetheart Femi.

To celebrate marriages, we staged a flash mob to surprise lifestyle blogger Sisi Yemmie. We planned with Bobo, Sisi Yemmie’s husband that we would love to celebrate their love by publicly displaying how much he loved her at Ikeja City Mall. On the day of the surprise, Sisi Yemmie was tricked into going for a meeting with Founder of BellaNaija Uche Pedro.

She got dressed and headed to Ikeja City Mall. In her usual lifestyle blogging fashion, she saw a flash mob taking place and started recording it live on her Instagram page.  In less than a few minutes, her husband Bobo appeared from the crowd and yes you can guess what happened next … She was so shocked and excited at the same time. After she was told what really happened, they both enjoyed their Baileys ice cream and treat. All these was done For The Love of Weddings.

We believe strongly that love should be celebrated every time and not just only during weddings.

See Sisi Yemmie’s epic reaction and her full vlog on how she really felt.

Friendships formed! Moments shared! Cheers to BBN Wonderland!

It was a fantastic weekend for brides-to-be from all over Nigeria. Launched in 2015, #BBNWonderland by Baileys Nigeria and BellaNaija Weddings is the premier bridal experience in Nigeria. As promised, 30 brides-to-be are selected from entries from all over the country. The brides-to-be were joined by 5 brand affiliates.

Let’s give you a little back story of how this year’s event started.

Earlier in January, we put out a call for grooms-to-be to apply for their brides-to-be to be part of BBN Wonderland. To enter, the groom had to create a cocktail inspired be his bride and post it on social media or send the response via mail.We got hundreds of amazing responses which made it so difficult to choose from. The grooms went all out!  Like Bolu‘s fiance who tagged his Baileys inspired cocktail The Mint Creamy Cherry. Yum! Here is how he described it.

Words are actually not enough to describe #MyBella Tife (@Bolusucre) one whose love is creamy and original, also fun and flirty like the Baileys Irish Cream.

Now for my mix.
I have here
– Baileys
– Mint Leaves
– Little crushed fruits
– Cherry coulis
– Crushed cashew nuts
– Crushed ice
So, I’ll call my Baileys inspired cocktail “the Mint Creamy Cherry”. Life with #MyBella is filled with so much goodness, mixed with a little intoxication, we know Baileys is sweet and rich with its creamy goodness…
She is something different from the rest I must tell you! Special in every way, just as Mint Leaves are unique for cocktails so is the LOVE OF MY LIFE.
Ever since we started this journey to forever, she has always added colours to my life like the cherry coulis and the mixed fruits.
One would wonder Cashew nut? Trust me her “nut’iness” is next to none *winks*
The Process
– Put mint leaves with little brown sugar in a shaker muddled together
– Pour in Baileys and ice and shake for like 30secs
– Pour your coulis first into the glassware followed by the Baileys Irish Cream mix
– Garnish with crushed nuts and a cherry on top (I was blessed with everything you could ever need in a woman with an extra cherry on top)
Does she deserve to be part of this exciting trill and Ultimate experience, Yesssssss!!! because she has always wanted this bachelorette fairytale getaway experience and it would mean the world to her, which would bring all the happiness and glow.  Truly her happiness is all that matters to me.

We also loved how Ifechi’s fiance described his Baileys inspired cocktail.

All the applications made us smile from ear to ear. So sweet.
Now, it was time to send the brides-to-be who got selected their invitation for BBN Wonderland. Each bride was invited to take part in this wonderland journey with a delicious ivory and gold drip Baileys inspired cake by Bakendale’s Cakes.

When the brides-to-be got their sweet invitation, they had nothing but joy and excitement.

Let’s take a short break to tell you about the very special moments the #BBNWonderland team created this year. Many asked us the story behind our theme – For the Love of Weddings.

Rather than explain with words, we showed it with actions in a major way! #BBN3FortheLoveofWeddings was all about those treasured, timeless moments before and after “I Do” filled with love and indulged by Baileys.

Let’s start my telling you about our #BBNWonderland Proposal which had Femi propose to the love of his life Lizzy.  We wrote all about it here. The #BBNWonderland team created Femi and Elizabeth’s #BBN3FortheLoveofWeddings moment by planning an AMAZING surprise marriage proposal. See the full story of how we brought the couple’s dream to life here.

We wish you were there, it was one of the most beautiful scenes ever! #BBN3FortheLoveofWeddings put this proposal together and of course the moment was sweetened by @baileysnigeria @BellaNaijaWeddings beauties, let’s give you the gist of the proposal; As both @femi_tech and @lizzy.oyinoluwa1 live in Abuja, we set into motion a plan to thrill the now bride-to-be with a romantic and intimate surprise proposal. Lizzy was tricked into flying into Lagos for a “meeting”. She arrived at the venue of the meeting and guess what, there was a real meeting set-up! Lizzy discussed business for an hour before her business contact mentioned they should head over to another venue to to continue the discussion and meet other business partners. When she arrived, she got the surprise of a lifetime! As soon as Lizzy entered the doors of the restaurant, a row of vocalists began serenading her with her favourite song – “Why I Love You” by Major. Each musician held a white rose which they handed to her one-by-one. She was wowed for the first few seconds and then overcome with emotions when she saw her love Femi right there, holding a single red rose, a black ring box and more importantly, standing in-front of a flower-adorned sign that said – MARRY ME. When she reached him, he took her hands and got on bended knees. He said – Will You Marry Me? She said YES – of course. Then Femi placed the glittering diamond ring on Lizzy’s finger. It was such a beautiful moment and we all applauded! …Then the serenade continued as Femi and Lizzy enjoyed the afterglow of their once-in-a-lifetime moment. Congratulations to the Lizzy and Femi. Lizzy is the first bride to receive an invitation to #BBNWonderland 3. Will you like to join her at #BBNWonderland 3 during the weekend of 27th January 2018? Look out for the winners announcement soon! Did we mention we organised a flash mob to surprise lifestyle blogger Sisi Yemmie? Ok, let’s tell you the full story here. We plotted with Yomi popularly known as Bobo to give his amazing wife an experience of a lifetime indulged with Baileys.

On the day of the surprise, Sisi Yemmie was tricked into going for a meeting with Founder of BellaNaija Uche Pedro. She got headed to the Ikeja City Mall. In her usual lifestyle blogging fashion, she saw a flash mob taking place and started recording it.  In less than a few minutes, her husband Bobo appeared from the crowd and yes you can guess what happened next … She was so shocked and excited at the same time. After she was told what really happened, they both enjoyed their Baileys and Baileys infused treats including Ice Cream. All this was done For The Love of Weddings. See More here.

Ok, let’s go back to the flow of events.

Arrival

When the brides arrived at Eko Hotel, which was going to be their home for the weekend, they were greeted with a fluffy teddy bear from Baileys and a welcome note.

They were later ushered into their room where they met a surprise personalized #BBNWonderland Welcome Tote and Pillow along with a golden balloon and fresh flowers sitting pretty in their hotel rooms.

Our BBNWonderland brides also got to meet their roommates. The addition of the roommate element was based on feedback from previous seasons and we are so glad we listened. Flash forward to the end of the weekend, many ladies testified that it was a case of “friend at first sight” with the fellow bride-to-be they shared a room with.

A Slumber Party to Remember

The weekend kicked off with a slumber party for the brides-to-be at Eko Hotel which was dubbed by them as the Ultimate Bridal Shower. So cool! See all the amazing activities that happened here.

Our dessert table by Dessert Studio was oh so yummy!

The brides took Baileys mixology classes with Lara of Eventi Cocktails. They were told to create a unique self-inspired Baileys cocktail.

They also learnt the art of slaying for themselves by Black Opal Nigeria brand ambassador – Lillian O Paul and Tolani of Tolani Artistry. Each bride-to-be got a Black Opal Bridal Beauty Starter Kit as a surprise gift.

What’s wedding planning without the money talk? To speak with the brides on saving, investing and money in marriage, we had the renowned finance expert/author and CEO of Bestman Games – Nimi Akinkugbe share real-life advice with the brides. They all received the bestselling personal financial book authored by Aunty Nimi called A-Z of Personal Finance. Talk about back to back surprise gifts!

The BellaNaija Weddings team collaborated with Sorrela Kraft and The Gift Haven for the Bride and a Boss Box. The #BBNWonderland brides loved the sentiment behind the box as well as the handy items within.

To wrap up the night, the talented fashion designer Mai Atafo led a fun and interactive session with all the brides featuring his couture wedding dresses. You had to be there to understand. We laughed, we played dress-up, we saw the brides unleash their creativity as well…it was definitely a major highlight of the experience.

Everyone had such a great time and it was the perfect opener for such an amazing weekend.

Saturday Morning workout. Go ladies!

On Saturday, 27th of January, the brides-to-be started their day on a fit note and a little surprise. They were all scheduled to have their workout session which they began doing on the basketball court of Eko Hotel. They had barely started their session when movie star Kate Henshaw surprised them as their fitness coach. The brides-to-be were so excited.

Did we mention #BBNWonderland brides enjoyed relaxing massages from the professional therapists from Apples and Oranges Spa right after their exercise? Yes they did!

Getting to their rooms, they saw a sweet surprise from Baileys Nigeria waiting for them. A custom bottle of Baileys plus other treats to enjoy it with.

Bridal Tour

Up next was a bridal tour to The Wedding Mall, where they interacted with amazing wedding vendors like The Wedding Guru, Diko Photography and Parchment by Dami.

Entrepreneur/Legendary baker Tosan Jemide of  Cakes by Tosan was also at the mall to speak with the brides on choosing the right cake for their wedding. They got to taste the different flavours of wedding cakes and had a chance to indulge their cake with Baileys.

To close the bridal tour, Temi of Kwamuhle Fabrics spoke about bridal styling, selecting the right fabric for their outfit and surprised all the 35 brides-to-be with beautiful bridal fabrics.

SURPRISE – Every bride got fabric for FREE from Temi of Kwamuhle – Can you see their excitement! Love it!

Getting Ready!

It was finally time for the ultimate BBN Wonderland ceremony and the ladies had to be glammed up by representatives from Black Opal Nigeria and Ferdinand Hair.

All Glammed Up!

Skyline Posing before We Party

Let’s Party… shall we?!

The evening ceremony held at the Skyline Terrace of Oriental Hotel which was the perfect location. The hall was set up by The Wedding Guru team headed by Christine Ogbeh. As with the previous years, the event was planned by Coker Creative.

Decor Love!
Everyone who stepped into the space was transported into a real Wonderland. From the outdoor cocktail space to the indoor event space. Everything was a WOW back to back.

Stage Fever!

The stage was a mixture of white and a hint of metallic. The sofas mixed with Dior chairs added a classy elegance to the ambience.

Treats and Amazing Gourmet Food
This time, we went gourmet with the food and had the talented Chef Fregz and Chef Nkesi make us delicious dishes. Each food item was so delicious! We also enjoyed canapés by Sweet Harriet, Artist & Scientist and Tash Bistro – all so tasty. The #BBNWonderland dessert table by The Dessert Studio looked so great, we almost didn’t want to touch it but once we tasted the treats, we could not stop. We also had more desserts from I Luv Desserts and Salt Lagos. Our after-party Baileys infused grilled food by The A.J’s was the perfect feast to end the night!

Cake Though…Lovestruck!

Can we take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous BBN Wonderland cake by Cakes By Tosan? Love.

Such a Grand Entrance
When the brides-to-be arrived, they gave everyone a show-stopping entrance by dancing into Wonderland and having fun on the 360 video stage by Cinematics Films where they were welcomed by their host for the evening, superstar comedian Bovi.

Adenike Adebola, Guinness Nigeria Portfolio Director Spirits & RTD kicked off the event welcoming the brides-to-be to BBN Wonderland assuring them of a good time.

Words of Wisdom from RMD
Now, it was time for Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD). While RMD expressed that he wished the grooms were here to learn from his experiences, he was so candid! Looking around the room, everyone was so focused on what he was sharing. We will need to get the video and share soon, definitely lots of wise words and real-life experience.

It was his wife Jumobi’s birthday so he had to get back home to celebrate with her but all the #BBNWonderland brides and guests were so grateful for the knowledge shared.

The Shaku Shaku dancer bride is…

Into the event, Bovi decided to identify the best Shaku Shaku dancer among the brides-to-be. You can clearly tell who won from the video right?

Loving yourself in marriage with Cobhams and Ojuola
The ladies were so excited to interact with award-winning musician Cobhams and business executive Ojuola who have been married since 2010 but were friends for many years before that time. Ojuola and Cobhams were as real as real can be. They shared the importance of finding yourself, asking the deep questions and outlining what is important for you as a person at the beginning of your journey.

A Girly Chat with Adesua Etomi
Founder of BellaNaija / BellaNaija Weddings, Uche Pedro came on stage to chat with the #BBNWonderland brides and then to introduce award-winning actress Adesua Etomi. Adesua who was the brides-to-be’s shoes just a few months ago while planning her wedding shared words of wisdom.

Adesua shared quite a number of pearls of wisdom, for example – when she was asked what to do when a close friend starts acting distant and is not there for you during your wedding planning process. Adesua responded by sharing that she experienced a similar situation, however, rather than internalizing the friend’s behaviour, she advised brides to realize that it’s not always about them and the friend could be going through a difficult time so it’s best to not get upset but instead show caring and compassion instead.

It’s Ti-wa Sa-vage!
Talk about the right start to the after party! Tiwa co-sang and danced with the brides-to-be and yes we have pictures and videos to prove it! DJ Spinall was on the wheels of steel to ensure the ladies had a super fantastic time dancing the night away.

A toast to the Best Life!
Ufuoma Udjoh,
Baileys Nigeria Brand Manager had everyone toast to the best life. Here’s to us.

Chidiogo Akunyili celebrates Civil Union with partner Andrew

Chidiogo Akunyili, founder of She ROARs (Reimagining Our Africa Rising) and daughter of late Dora Akunyili, has announced her civil union with her partner Andrew.

Akunyili, who is also a writer and a philanthropist, and a World Economic Forum Global Leadership Fellow, shared the news of their union and how they met on her Instagram.

She had written what it was she wanted in a man, she wrote, and 7 months later, when they met, it was like she had written him into existence. She wrote:

Celebrating our civil union 🌞 Excited for all the white & colourful celebrations with friends and family to come 🙏🏾 Thank you Andrew for being a daily reminder of the miracles that exist in this world and the power we have to tap into it.
On a cold February evening in Geneva, I wrote down words that I feel connected our destinies & led our paths to cross 7 months later in the deserts of Nevada. “Monday, 8 Feb 2016. Geneva – Clayton asked that I do a true exercise of what I want. Here goes. I seek a partnership with a strong man, mind, body and spirit. I seek a partnership with a man who will cherish, love and honour me & the life we build together, supporting each other through the journey with kindness, love, a smile & words that put difficulties in perspective. He will not be away from home all the time but have a career that allows for him to assist strongly and sometimes wholly in building a home for us and for the children. He will be conscious and inspire us to grow in consciousness. He will be full of kindness and have a depth of love that leaves us inspired by what two people can achieve together. He will hold me and we will give gratitude. He will be flexible. He is adventurous/open to new experiences. He is happy in himself & together we share happiness in God and Love.” 7 months later after strong guidance came to me to go to Burning Man — I met him. It was a story of the union of souls. I felt I had written him to existence and rejoiced in the connection we shared. One I know started with a decision to focus on the wholeness of my own soul — self love — & from the space of taking time for self I was ready to take time for anothers soul and him mine inturn. I was not looking for a man so save me but a man to hold me up in my own strength. Together we continue to weave a web of care, love, strength, that isn’t without its difficulties but I’m learning & growing with & from them.

I say yes to a life spent together in partnership — to holding each other up outwardly and on the inside — to loving every part of ourselves and each other knowing we have the power to create and re-create from a place of peace with what is & the infinity that can be.

See the post and photos of the couple below:

A Proposal in The Air! Uyiosa and Ahmed’s #ForeverAHMUYours18 Wedding

Wow! Talk about love at first sight!

When Uyi met Ahmed, she knew immediately he was going to be her forever love. The beautiful couple met through a mutual friend who played matchmaker. Their long distant relationship blossomed amidst all odds and in the words of the bride, “now we are here”.

You will love this detailed love story told by the bride. Look out for her reaction when Ahmed proposed… so cute!

Here is a little back story of how they met.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes Uyi and Ahmed a sweet life of love together.

How We Met
By The Bride, Uyi

We met in 2012 through a mutual friend. He texted me on BBM saying he has this friend that is looking for a good girl to settle with and I was like, “ahh me, good girl?”

Lol well, we exchanged BBM pins,  we got talking. At that time, he was based in Canada and I was based in Nigeria. We really did not chat much.
Fast forward to December of 2012, I was back in Lagos from the university and got chatting with our mutual friend and he told me, “oh Ahmed is in town“. Ahmed and I decided to meet. He invited me to his house. When I got there, he opened the door and I saw this tall, handsome guy wearing brown native. Oh, by the way, I love a guy in native. I immediately said to myself, “THIS IS MY HUSBAND!

I remember texting my friend Roseline and telling her, “omg I just met my husband.
The holiday ended and I went back to school and he went back to Canada and we managed to keep in touch. We dated on and off for six years. The distance affected it and other personal issues.

Last year, he invited me to Canada.  He had invited me many times before that but I had declined but last year I decided to accept the invitation. That trip made a BIG difference because we had not seen each other in years. Long story short, he proposed in July last year.  It has been a roller coaster but now we are here!

Our Proposal Story
On one of my trips to Toronto, we went on a bus tour to see the city, but the tour was long and exhausting so we decided to get down and go shopping lol.
We later decided to go on a Helicopter tour so we could really see the view of the city of Toronto. The next morning, we decided to go to the Helicopter tour company, we got there but they were not working as the pilots were off on Tuesdays. We both decided that on my next trip, we would come back.

My next trip was a month later in July. Ahmed had already booked the Helicopter tour before I arrived and was scheduled for the 2nd of July 2017. We were also planning for a yacht party as that weekend was also Caribana Weekend.
On the 2nd after church, we went back home to pick up more drinks for the party. I noticed he changed his blazer with the excuse that the other one did not look nice.
It actually did fit him very well. I later found out that the previous blazer was showing the ring box so he had to change it.

When we got to the Helicopter tour location, we were briefed on the usual safety precautions. The moment we got on the Helicopter, Ahmed kept telling the Pilot to inform us when we are on our way back. I actually felt that was normal.

In the sky, he started saying some romantic words and I clearly remember not even paying attention. I was just like, bobo yi the cloud is making you romantic lol. He kept talking but I could not hear what he was saying as my headphones were not placed properly.

I finally heard him say, “You know you remind me of my mum and I have learnt to know what love is since I reconnected with you“. He had never told me that before. That was when I had to turn to him because the statements were getting deep.
I immediately turned and I first thing I saw was his teary eyes, at that point, I knew something was up. The next thing I saw was Ahmed putting his hands in his blazer pocket and bringing out the box.
At that point, I blanked out!

I looked out the window but we weren’t on the ground yet as I wanted to JUMP! I could not hear anything again as I was not expecting this so soon. He asked me to marry him, I accepted and couldn’t wait to get off the Helicopter so I could run. We both got off and the Helicopter crew started congratulating us and taking pictures. I was still in shock. We got back to our hotel in the city to change for the yacht party … The party was OUR engagement party.

Best Day Ever!

Oma Ehiri: My BBN Wonderland Experience

$

Ahoi (Czech word for hello)! I am so excited to write again. I have been in transit these last couple of days but finally found a writer’s spot at the Veba Wellness Centre in Broumov. It is a corner of the lobby with a view of trees and beautiful architectural designs. With my cup of tea and my creative juice coming alive, I thought it was time to finally get this piece out- my BBN Wonderland experience.

It all started with an electronic mail from BBN Wonderland, followed by a cake and a bottle of Baileys which I showed off here. This is one experience I have always looked forward to- a time to get pampered, meet other brides, make new friends and yes, get gifts. However, I cannot say that I saw these things coming. That is, though I had an idea of what it was that went down at wonderland, the actual experience surpassed my imagination.

ARRIVAL

I arrived in a cute little dress gifted to me by my mother in law, paired with sandals by Ethnik by Owolabi and my big bohemian hair by ST Hair and Beauty (@sthairandbeauty). On arrival, the Baileys and Bella Naija team welcomed me with a white teddy bear accompanied by a personal note from Ufuoma Udjoh, the brand manager for Baileys Nigeria.

I met other brides there and even a few familiar faces amongst them. We exchanged pleasantries and got shown to our rooms by the hosts.

As I entered my room, there were fresh flowers by Adela’s flowers (@adelasflowers) placed on the bedside

and on the bed, was a gold splashed balloon with a throw pillow that had my name on it and a custom-made tote bag filled with goodies.Oh boy! Are you in love already? Wait till you see what I found inside of it;

A bottle of Baileys
Baileys flip-flop
Onesie by LVR Gift Hub (@lavieroyale)
Fluffy slippers
A bottle of water
Baileys makeup bag
Headpiece by My Velvet Box (@myvelvetboxng)
cookies with one that had my name on it by Victoria Treats (@v.treat)

THE SLUMBER PARTY

By 8:30 pm, we assembled in a suite for the slumber party. I have always dreamt of having a slumber party and here was Baileys and Bella Naija Weddings fulfilling my dreams. We had finger foods, cocktail by Eventi Cocktail from the Baileys bar and what seemed to be Chinese or Thai food.

After eating, we all gathered in one place for the rest of the programs lined up for the night which kicked off with the head of Eventi cocktails giving us insights on the different types of cocktails, followed by some games and then, everyone got a Baileys apron with their name on it.

Black Opal Nigeria’s ambassadors, Lilian and Tolani, spoke to us about makeup and beauty routines.

They left us with a black opal bridal starter kit containing;

A note
Eyeshadow palette
Single eyeshadow
Lotion
Exfoliator
Brush
Lipstick
Eye Pencil
Lip gloss
Bar soap

Next was Nimi Akinkugbe on money matters speaking on financial commitments, accounts, being financially transparent and wise in the relationship and so much more. It also gave me an opportunity to understand what other women were going through in their relationships. Did it help? A whole lot I must say and she also gifted us a copy of her book.

Once Aunty Nimi was done, we had Mai Atafo, Nigeria’s top fashion designer speak on the challenges he faced in his marriage and how they have overcome.

After which we discussed wedding gowns and the selection of a groom’s outfit. You know the bride does have a lot of influence on what her groom wears so we certainly needed the education. Then came the fun part which was the first time in my life that I got into a wedding gown. I sure loved the one that I wore but I won’t be having that design for the wedding.

Once the games from Mai was over, we called it a night but only after we all got a box which read, “I am a bride and a boss”.

WORKOUT

Day 2 came so fast as we had to be on the baseball court by 7 am. We got there trying to stretch when we got the first surprise of the day, Kate Henshaw as our fitness instructor. Some of the girls already got the hint though. Reminds me of WAEC when some of the students always sort of knew some of the questions *smiles*.

Kate drilled us that days after, the brides still had sore legs which made some question the money they have been spending on gym subscriptions. According to Bubu, I go the gym and yet I feel much pain in 1 session with Kate. I guess it is more about the exercise that you do and how you do it than where you do it.

BREAKFAST & MASSAGE

Some went for the massage right after the workout but I chose to shower and get breakfast before the massage just to save time. As I got into my room, there was another box with my name on it, waiting for me from the team containing;

A bottle of Baileys with my name on it
Cookies
Chocolate
Nescafe

After gushing over it, I rushed to shower and went down for breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant.

I had some plantain, yam, sausage, eggs and stewed beef. I also had some fruit salad and left with an apple for my massage.

The massage was super relaxing. I got the opportunity to have it twice cos the second time, they needed someone to fill up space and I was more than happy to fill up.

THE WEDDING MALL

We left for the wedding mall after the massage session. I had a dress made from Veba fabric.

The wedding mall is in Lekki and houses a couple of wedding vendors like Diko Photography. There was a card and jewelry vendor as well and then we had some talk from the wedding guru on decoration. Cakes by Tosan was there dishing out tricks on the ideal wedding cakes even on a budget.

Temi of Kwamuhle fabrics spoke on fabrics and the time frame to get the best asoebi at the most budget-friendly prices. The icing on the cake was the fabrics by Kwamuhle for every bride asides the cake tasting made possible by Cakes by Tosan.

GLAM SESSION

Back at the hotel, we got glammed up by Black Opal beating the face and Ferdinand’s Hair on the hair. I had Uche (@sutchay) for Black Opal do my face beat and then Ferdinand’s hair (@ferdinandshair) help cut my Brenda wig from ST Hair and Beauty, giving me that Cleopatra look. Now, I love the wig more than ever before.

WONDERLAND PARTY

This was not the grand finale but it was the party of the weekend. Dressed in our white jumpsuits or gowns, we headed to Oriental Hotel. After the photo ops which never stopped anyway, we danced into the hall with Uche Pedro of Bella Naija leading us in and Bovi welcoming us as the host of the night.

Bovi giving out 100 dollars to one of the brides

We had the opportunity of listening to Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Cobhams Asuquo and his wife and Adesua Etomi. Lessons I can share with you on a later date because this post is already running out of words.

DJ Spinall was on the wheels and joined by DJ Big N when Tiwa Savage came in to perform.

It was more dancing after that and then came the big wonderland box containing;

Hanger
Lingerie by Revel NG (@revelng)
Heel Guard by Essence shoe care (@essenceshoecare)
Mini speaker by The Gift Haven (@thegifthaven)
Emergency bridal kit and Hubby and Wifey caps by LVR Gift Hub
Silk sleep mask by Trouvai lingerie (@trouvai.lingerie)
knee guard and work out gloves by Kay’s Fit Club (@kaysfitclub)
Milk shaker
An awkward guide to be a Nigerian by Atoke (@atoke_)
Scented candles by OP Maki (@op.maki)
Nail polish by Amali (@amalicosmetics)
Mirror, wifey mug and queen water bottle by Perk Bag co (@perkbagco)
Bracelets by Michelle (@michelles_thejewellerystore)
Spiced room spray by R and R Luxuy (@randrluxury)

I added all of it to the rest of the items that I got and that is what you see below.

BREAKFAST

Baileys Bella Naija Wonderland ended with a breakfast at Adelas. For this, I wore a floral dress made by Tayo Abikoye (@tailoredbytayo) from a fabric from the nature collection of Veba (@vebafashion).

After eating, we got to introduce ourselves and told our love stories. We had games and then, every bride left with a gift bag.

This was the best I could do because I had to rush off to the airport and there was no way I could carry all of the items that I got lest I have excess luggage *smiles*.

I had a wonderful time at BBN Wonderland and I am grateful to everyone who was a part of this adventure. Thank you to Baileys and Bella Naija Weddings for an experience that I will not forget in a very long time. I have become popular in the wedding industry with vendors sending in DMs to work with me for my wedding *smiles* and who knows, maybe I may get discounts from them. Thank you to everyone who put in their time and sacrificed so much to make us happy. People had to spend their birthdays planning for us, some had to leave their partners. We had a pregnant woman working tirelessly. It was just so much love that went into it and I am grateful.

I do have a video but like I mentioned, I am in transit and you know that we are just trying to get the team together. So, content is a bit slow but we will have it up soon. Till then, let me know the best part of this for you reading this.

PS: I miss the brides already.

BN Bridal: Dream Collection by Sima Brew is a Great Choice For The Bride who Loves Versatility

The Dream Collection by Sima Brew is gorgeous!

We love the intense attention to detail on each piece. The versatile nature of some of the dresses will make most brides fall in love. The stunning silhouettes, adorned necklines and embellished look makes each piece stand out. This collection was modelled by Ghanaian TV presenter Berla Addardey and can we add that she was the perfect muse.

Speaking about the inspiration of the collection, Sima said, ” this collection was inspired by the intersection fashion trends and the need of a real bride.”

Sima Brew is a Ghanaian clothing company that makes bridal and everyday attire.

I Cannot Imagine Doing Life with Anyone Else! Chisom and Emeka’s Super Fun #TheUmeofias Wedding

The beauty of love!

Chisom the founder of 424 Events tied the knot with her forever love Emeka. Their love story is such a sweet sweet one. It had us smiling from ear to ear. We could almost touch the excitement in the air when Emeka proposed to Chisom.  Their friendship, love and respect for each other is so evident and we sure love it.

Here is the full back story of how they met.

BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple a blissful life of love together.

How We Met
By The bride, Chisom

Emeka and I were introduced actually, lol but not by our parents… (Thank God) unless they would never have allowed us to hear the last of it. We were introduced by our mutual friend Kenny.

I am originally a lawyer,  so during my call to bar dinner in December 2015, Kenny mentioned Emeka. He said, “Som, I have this guy I would like you to meet. I believe both of you would get along just fine.” At that time, I was fresh out of law school and just trying to figure out how to get a job in a good corporate law firm. So, I was not really in that headspace. Plus, I was 22 at the time so I REALLY wasn’t in that headspace.  Naturally, I was very disinterested in what Kenny had to say but I indulged the conversation. Next question I asked was, “what does he do? How old is he?” Lol and Kenny goes, “oh he works for a company that manufactures tomato paste and he is 27″. My best friend Oti who was sitting right beside me and I went almost simultaneously: “So he is a farmer?” lol How silly were we then? We both went, “Kenny?” Lol and just continued eating.

Well, Kenny was very persistent, and called the day after the dinner and was like, “Som trust me, he really is a great guy. I think you should give it a chance.” He proceeded to ask for my Instagram handle so Emeka could check me out. I was just like, “ehn wait! He doesn’t even know what I look like?” I was so amused that he was asking for my Instagram handle. I was like okay I want his too. Seeing as we are checking ourselves out. LOL!

I don’t know what it was about his pictures, but he just seemed so kind. That was the first thing I remembered. When we started texting, he just seemed so polite. He was in Dubai at the time, so when he came back, we started hanging out and became fast friends and then exclusive friends LOL *not explaining this on BellaNaija* and then boyfriend and girlfriend and then he popped the question on February 26th, 2017 and then here we are all married!

I love you Meksy Meksy *he would kill me for this* 🙂 My best friend, my business advisor (he’s the reason 4/24events even exists after all his bullying).  My yummy lover and husband. I cannot imagine doing life with anyone else. I pray we continue to be friends forever and ever.

Our Proposal
By The Bride, Chisom

Talking about our proposal is never really my favourite thing because I believe it shows how SLOW I can be sometimes. But I firmly believe it is not my fault!

Emeka and I had breakfast together at his house that Sunday morning. I literally was with him that morning. Lol You can tell I am still not over it. At about 2 that day, I had to go over to my best friend’s parent’s anniversary party (or so I thought). I left his house around 12 to go get my makeup done at Bebe’s (Bibyonce). Bebe and I had established a friendship and she was gisting with me about how she is so glad I came in early as her friend was getting proposed to that day and she was glad she could finish my makeup on time and go for it. I remember being so excited for her friend not knowing she was talking about me. LOL!

Fast forward to 1:30 pm, I was done with my makeup and called Oti as we were supposed to be riding together to her parent’s party. She said she was running late and I should wait for her at Ice Cream Factory in Lekki. I was like okay. Oti came not long after and I remember seeing a bouquet of flowers in her car. I am like errr who are these for? And she’s like oh for my mummy. I did not think anything of it and so we went.

When we got to Craft Gourmet, the first thing I noticed was that all the curtains are drawn. I thought they did that for her parent’s party as they probably rented the place for the day.

Only for me to walk in and there was John Legend’s you and I playing in the background and our friends on a trail with cards detailing our first conversation. Guess who was there too, BEBE! For the life of me, I still don’t understand how she got there oh! Edo? Lol I joke I joke. I literally had to walk the trail reading the cards, to Emeka who was on one knee at the end of it. Absolutely perfect! I still smile thinking about it. Lol I can probably only remember half of what he said, and I said yes yes yes!

The Groom Emeka’s Version

Som Som and I were introduced by a mutual friend Kenny. He had been telling me about her but didn’t do a formal introduction until when I was away for Christmas holiday in December 2015.

My first impression of Som was that she just seemed so nice. At this point, all we did was text and as cliché as it sounds, it just seemed like I had known her forever like she was my friend. I got back into town two weeks later and I had previously told her that I was moving into a new place and so would be unpacking all day and to cheer me up, you know what Som did? She baked me a cake! She delivered it right after work. This was a Saturday by the way, (she is a low-key workaholic) oh and a foodie too! She ended up eating half of the cake!

We got along really well and I knew before I travelled to Dubai in October 2017 to get her ring, that I wanted her to be stuck with me forever. So I started plotting with her friend Oti, on how to carry out the proposal.

My wife is very dramatic as much as she had like to deny it and she is a planner so it had to be perfect! I even ran some ideas by her from time to time, under the guise that I was helping a friend with proposal ideas, and the planner in her was only too happy to help. I am sure she doesn’t remember this.

The day I proposed to Som has to be one of the best days of my life. Best decision ever! We had breakfast in bed that Sunday morning, unknown to her, her proposal was coming later in the day. I tried sha. Her friend Oti had planned that she would go get her makeup done at Bibyonce’s studio and then she will meet us (a couple of mutual friends and I) at Craft Gourmet.

Everything went according to plan. Lord knows how nervous I was before she walked through those doors with Oti but like I said earlier, best decision ever.

White Wedding

Fast forward to 1:30 pm, I was done with my makeup and called Oti as we were supposed to be riding together to her parent’s party. She said she was running late and I should wait for her at Ice Cream Factory in Lekki. I was like okay. Oti came not long after and I remember seeing a bouquet of flowers in her car.
